FE6 Localization Patch v1.2.1 - Full localization with new features, including Support Conversation reader (2024)

As someone who doesn't post very often (I think I posted twice like a year ago?), this is out of the blue, but I've been lurking around the forums for a while and I've seen some people mention updating the patch.

Seriously, why not? Let's do it. I don't personally know how to edit text in FE6 but I have a lot of experience doing fan translations of manga, and definitely want to help with a rewrite/polishing of the translation script. I can use Nightmare, and I know the hacking community here is pretty active, so it could probably be done, right? I've been wanting to help update or redo this patch for years.

The story of the game isn't especially amazing, but the supports of this game in particular get a lot of undeserved flak. There's some good stuff buried under the stiff English, so as sort of a proof of concept to show I'm willing to put in the time and effort, I already rewrote a couple of the supports. I won't claim to be the best writer or anything, and I know there are some limits with how much text can be displayed at a time, but I'm familiar with the pitfalls of going between Japanese and English and I feel like with others doing the actual game code type stuff, I can make the FE6 script a lot smoother. I can read Japanese too if it's ever necessary to check back at the original script.

Lance/Clarine

C Support

Clarine: Oh? And you are...?
Lance: Ah, you must be Lady Clarine, daughter of Count Reglay. I am Lance, knight of Pherae. We are honored to have someone of your stature among us. I apologize for any impudence you may have experienced from the men. The soldiers are simply a bit anxious because of this war.
Clarine: Oh... Yes, consider them forgiven. I don't often grant favors like this so easily. Consider it an honor!
Lance: Yes, I thank you, milady. Now, let me take your hand...
Clarine: My... So civil and gentlemanly! ...For a country knight, that is.
Lance: I am honored.
Clarine: O-Of course, your manners are nothing compared to our knights back home.
Lance: Please forgive my breeding, milady.

B Support

Clarine: Lance.
Lance: Lady Clarine, is there anything I can do for you?
Clarine: As the daughter of House Reglay, I order you to serve as my bodyguard from this point forward.
Lance: But...
Clarine: In truth, you are a little feeble to be my bodyguard... But I don't have many knights to choose from, so you will have to do. You must stay by my side and defend me at all times. Understood?
Lance: If Master Roy orders it, it will be done.
Clarine: But... I'm ordering it! Me!
Lance: If I may object, milady, I cannot follow your orders directly. A knight must serve his master, and only his master. One who fails in that is no longer a knight.
Clarine: I... I knew that! I was merely testing your knightly integrity!
Lance: Yes, milady. Forgive my rudeness.
Clarine: Y-Yes, well, you passed my test. Stand proud, knight!

A Support

Clarine: Lance!
Lance: Yes, Lady Clarine?
Clarine: Even if you are not mine to order... Are we not a lady and knight?
Lance: Indeed we are, milady.
Clarine: In-Indeed... As such, I hereby permit you to kiss my hand.
Lance: Yes, thank you, milady.
Clarine: Lance, I don't want you to misunderstand. The kissing of my hand is a symbol of the difference in our status. There is no more meaning to it than that!
Lance: Yes, of course, milady.
Clarine: Yes...of course... ...You're not...disappointed...?
Lance: Did you say something, milady?
Clarine: N-No! Nothing! Back to your duties, knight!

Hugh/Niime

C Support

Hugh: ......
Niime: Hm...? Who's that I see sneaking by without so much as a hello? Whoever it is, he seems to have a death wish.
Hugh: Oh! H-Hello there, Grandmother! Fancy meeting you here!
Niime: Don't give me that, boy! You've been avoiding me, haven't you? Are you shy, or just stupid?
Hugh: Well, Grandmother, you seem to be keeping in good health... Not planning on dying anytime soon, I hope?
Niime: Harumph! If I dropped dead my pathetically helpless grandson would have no one to keep him in line. So tell me. It was three years ago I sent you out to study the darkness. I hope you have a good excuse for using that putrid anima magic.
Hugh: Actually, I became a mage.
Niime: ...I must finally be going deaf. I thought I heard you say you became a mage.
Hugh: Oh sorry, I'll say it so you can hear. I! USE! ANIMA! MAGIC! NOW!!
Niime: You... You blundering failure! And you dare show your face in front of me!?
Hugh: Help! Murderer!
Niime: Foolish boy...
Hugh: Hey, where are you going, Grandma?
Niime: I always get a migraine when I talk to you. I never want to see you again.
*Niime leaves*
Hugh: ...I thought I was a dead man for sure. Either she's gotten soft with age, or she was dumbfounded at how handsome I've become. Either way, lucky me!

B Support

Niime: Hugh!
Hugh: Grandmother! ......
Niime: ...What are you doing?
Hugh: Huh? Oh, I'm just bracing myself. For when you blast me with your magic and all that.
Niime: ...You really are a fool.
Hugh: Don't say that! Come on, I'm your only grandson!
Niime: Yes, most unfortunate, that. But there's nothing to be done about it, I'm afraid. Anyway, I need something from you.
Hugh: Really? That's a surprise.
Niime: Give me back that Nosferatu tome I lent to you when I sent you out. You have no use for it now.
Hugh: Ulp...
Niime: You... do have it, don't you?
Hugh: Uh...
Niime: Hugh, those tomes are hard to fine! I sincerely hope you didn't pawn it...
Hugh: Wait! No, no, no! I didn't sell it! I gave it away!
Niime: What!? And that's any better?
Hugh: No, but listen! I met this kid who was studying dark magic, and I traveled with him for a while. The kid was an orphan, so I felt kinda bad for him, I guess. Anyway, one morning when I woke up, the kid was gone, and so was the tome!
Niime: So you didn't give it away. It was stolen by a child.
Hugh: I suppose that's one way of putting it.
Niime: That's the only way of putting it!
Hugh: ...... H-Hey, Grandmother. I'll leave if your head hurts again.
Niime: ...Yes, please do. Your departed parents would never forgive me for reducing their only son to ash.
Hugh: Y-You're right! Bye!
*Hugh leaves*
Niime: He's just like his father... He tries to be bad, but his heart is too kind. ...Why couldn't he inherit his talent for dark magic as well?

A Support

Hugh: Grandmother!
Niime: What?
Hugh: Was my old man good at dark magic? I don't really remember.
Niime: ...Why?
Hugh: Well, I really did try to study dark magic, but I couldn't seem to pick it up at all. That kid I told you about was doing great though. I thought that maybe I don't have the talent, so I switched to anima magic. But the thing is, how can I not have talent for it when I have your blood in my veins? That's why I wanna know if my old man had the talent or not.
Niime: Your father had more talent for dark magic than you could ever hope for.
Hugh: What? That makes no sense. ...Wait. I get it! Of course!
Niime: An epiphany?
Hugh: Yes! You're not really my grandmother, are you!? O-Ow! What did you do that for!?
Niime: Your stupidity. I'm your grandmother, like it or not. You would never have been born were it not for me.
Hugh: But that's impossible! This handsome face couldn't have come from those hideous wrinkles.
Niime: I was a stunning beauty when I was your age. I would court men like you and drop them once I'd milked all the money out of them.
Hugh: Ouch...
Niime: Your kindness comes from your father, and your talent for anima magic comes from your mother. Your stupidity... That's probably from your grandfather.
Hugh: What? My mom wasn't a shaman?
Niime: I was determined at first to make my son's wife a shaman. But your mother was a fine young lady with a distinct talent for anima magic, so I caved. ...I was so proud of them both... And yet they died so young...
Hugh: I'm sorry that all you have left is a pathetic failure of a grandson.
Niime: ......Don't be. How I missed yelling at you while you were gone. Perhaps misbehaving children really are the most precious after all. All I want for you is to live a long and fulfilling life, Hugh.
Hugh: ...Grandmother.

Allen/Lance

C Support

Allen: Lance! How fares your sword today?
Lance: Neither good nor bad, Allen.
Allen: ...Cool and calm as always, I see. I may have lagged behind you the other day, but not in this battle! Watch and learn from my skill, Lance!
Lance: Of course I'll watch. We all can learn from one another. Don't expect me to lower myself to your level, though.
Allen: Well, look at you! I look forward to sparring when the battle's done. I'll be off then. You'd better hurry along too.

B Support

Lance: Allen, the battles will only get more difficult from here on.
Allen: Yeah, but a challenge is just what I want.
Lance: Allen, I have something to request of you. If we lose.
Allen: If we lose?
Lance: Yes. ...If it ever looks like defeat is certain, I want you to take Master Roy and retreat. I will act as a decoy for the enemy and buy you time.
Allen: What? But what about you?
Lance: If it has to be one of us, it may as well be me. I've served House Pherae the shortest, and so...
Allen: Have you lost your mind!?
Lance: ...Allen?
Allen: If you're staying, then so will I. I won't allow you to run headfirst into certain death alone.
Lance: But you're one of a long line of knights serving House Pherae. It's better that you take Master Roy and flee...
Allen: How long you've served means nothing! Let me ask you this. Do your consider yourself any less loyal than the other knights?
Lance: ......
Allen: No answer? Then allow me. You're just as valuable as any of us! You've held to your knightly vows admirably! I know that better than any, because I've been your partner ever since you began serving House Pherae!
Lance: Allen...
Allen: Don't throw your life away, Lance. Master Roy and all of us need you.

A Support

Lance: Allen, about the other day...
Allen: You mean about if we lose? Still intending to sacrifice yourself? Or something even more ludicrous?
Lance: No, you're right. ...Your words were a slap in the face. Perhaps I was belittling myself because I've served House Pherae the shortest.
Allen: Your work is second to none. Well, second to me, but that's a given.
Lance: Where does your confidence come from? I envy you sometimes.
Allen: I'm confident simply because I know I could never lose to you.
Lance: ...I'll make you eat those words after I beat you today.
Allen: Hah, not likely! See you after the battle!
Lance: Of course.
Allen: And Lance!
Lance: Yes?
Allen: Even if we lose, you won't be left behind! Remember that!
Lance: Of course!

Shanna/Deke

C Support

Thany: Hey, Captain!
Dieck: Shanna, please. Don't call me "Captain."
Thany: Why? Back in Ilia, we always call our leader captain.
Dieck: I don't like it.
Thany: All right, um... Okay, then I'll call you Big Man, like Lott and Wade do.
Dieck: No.
Thany: Shoot, can't use that, either?
Dieck: Just call me Deke, like you always have.
Thany: No! I always feel left out when they call you Big Man and I just call you Deke.
Dieck: Don't be ridiculous. Come on, let's go.
Thany: Hey wait! Deke!

B Support

Dieck: Shanna, I see you fighting on your own a lot.
Thany: Yeah. I'm on a pegasus, as you can plainly see. I move at a different pace than the others, so it's easier to fight by myself...
Dieck: I want you to slow down to our pace from now on.
Thany: What? But I do fine on my own!
Dieck: It worries us when you go charging in like that.
Thany: But if I get stronger...
Dieck: Can you stand up to a whole army on your own?
Thany: ...Um, no.
Dieck: Then make sure you match your pace with the others and work together. It'll maximize our chance of victory.
Thany: That'll help us win, huh?
Deick: Wars aren't fought alone, you know.
Thany: Yeah...

A Support

Thany: Deke! See how I've been adjusting my pace to the others lately?
Dieck: Yeah... But don't rely on them too much, either.
Thany: Huh? That's not what you said earlier!
Dieck: What I said then applies to soldiers. What I'm saying now applies to hired swords.
Thany: To hired swords...?
Dieck: A hired sword has to fend for him or herself. No one's going to watch your back. Always question others. You should even question my orders. Question whether they serve the group or if I'm just putting you in harm's way to protect myself.
Thany: I don't think that's necessary.
Dieck: Really now.
Thany: You would never make orders like that.
Dieck: You can never be sure.
Thany: I am sure. And so are Lott and Wade. That's why we entrust our lives to you.
Dieck: ...Don't get cocky, kid.
Thany: Teehee...

Bartre/Gonzales

C Support

Bartre: So...you're Gonzales. I hear you've been quite a nuisance out west.
Gonzales: Uh...
Bartre: What do you fight for?
Gonzales: I... I want fight with everyone. But...I useless. I become strong, everyone like me. Become strong.
Bartre: I see... Very well. I'll train you. First, I want you to hit me as hard as you can.
Gonzales: Hit? I can't... You get hurt...
Bartre: Oh yeah...? Take this!
*Bartre hits Gonzales*
Gonzales: Ugh.
*Gonzales gets up*
Gonzales: Wh-Why you hit me?
Bartre: You think your puny fists can hurt ME!? Now hit me!
Gonzales: O-Okay... Raaah!
*Gonzales hits Bartre*
Bartre: Oof... Yeah...You're pretty strong. I think I'll lie down now.

B Support

Bartre: Gonzales. Are you keeping up with your training?
Gonzales: Look, look. I find this. I have money.
Bartre: So you do. What of it?
Gonzales: I become strong. I buy armor. I not get hurt.
Bartre: Oh yeah...? Take this!
*Bartre hits Gonzales*
Gonzales: Ugh.
Bartre: Offense is everything! If you beat your enemy in a single hit, he won't even have a chance to hit back! Only puny worms wear armor!
*Gonzales gets up*
Gonzales: O-Okay... I wrong. I beat enemy in one hit. I buy strong axe.
Bartre: Oh yeah...? Take this!
*Bartre hits Gonzales...again*
Gonzales: Egh.
Bartre: You think that a good weapon makes you strong? A true warrior fights with the raw strength of his muscles! Don't waste your time buying weapons! Build your muscles! Build them up so big that you can crumble walls with the swing of a rusty iron axe!
*Gonzales gets up*
Gonzales: O-Okay...

A Support

Bartre: Ah, Gonzales.
Gonzales: I...
Bartre: You needn't say anything, Gonzales. I can tell by looking in your eyes. You've become strong. You've come a long way from the little weakling you were when we first met.
Gonzales: I... I...
Bartre: I know what you're going to say, Gonzales. And you're welcome. It was my pleasure.
Gonzales: I...
Bartre: But you still have a long way to go. The path to true warriorhood is hard and neverending. Now come, Gonzales. Let us train until we're strong enough to tear down the very sky above!
Gonzales: I...

Roy/Lilina

C Support

Roy: Lilina, are you all right? Do you need anything?
Lilina: No, I'm fine.
Roy: Are you hurt?
Lilina: No, all is well.
Roy: Very well, then. If there's anything I can do for you--
Lilina: Roy, it's all right.
Roy: What?
Lilina: Thanks for worrying about me, but I'm fine.
Roy: Well, if you say so... But if you ever need anything, tell me.
Lilina: I will.

B Support

Roy: Lilina. Lilina!
Lilina: Hm? Roy?
Roy: What's the matter? You were spacing out again. This is a battlefield. You could get killed!
Lilina: I'm sorry.
Roy: What's wrong?
Lilina: It's just that... We've come so far.
Roy: Have we?
Lilina: I'm not talking about distance... It's just that everything seems to have changed quickly. Do you remember back when you came to Ostia to study?
Roy: Of course. It was two years ago... Wait, or was it three years ago?
Lilina: Our fathers were still both well. Lycia was peaceful...no one could have imagined this war. ...It was only a few years ago, yet it feels like an eternity.
Roy: Lilina...
Lilina: Oh, just listen to me... There's no going back to that time...

A Support

Lilina: Roy... I'm sorry about the other day.
Roy: The other day?
Lilina: I was reminiscing about before the war. It's all changed... I need to accept that things will never be the same...
Roy: No, some things will never change.
Lilina: Like what?
Roy: Like us. We'll always be together.
Lilina: Huh...?
Roy: We can't go back to the past, but we're the ones who will build the future. We'll make the future as good as--no, better than the past.
Lilina: Hahaha...
Roy: What?
Lilina: It's you. Talking like that. Are you trying to charm me?
Roy: W-Was it that obvious? Yeah, I guess it was a little out of character for me...
Lilina: But, really...
Roy: Hm?
Lilina: Thanks...
Roy: Lilina...
Lilina: And you're right... We'll be together forever.
Roy: ...Of course.

Of course if it still sucks and you think I'm full of crap I'll go away.

But if not, let's do this, bros.
